How to use the resume builder
- The form starts with a made-up sample person so you can see how a finished page looks. Type over it, or press Start blank.
- Fill in the sections that apply to you. Empty sections are left out of the resume automatically.
- Write bullet points one per line. Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to reorder jobs, degrees and projects; put the most recent first.
- Pick a template, an accent colour and A4 or US Letter. The preview on the page shows the same line breaks and page breaks as the PDF.
- Press Download PDF. Use Export data to keep a JSON copy you can import later or on another device.
What “ATS-friendly” means here
Many employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) that reads the text of your resume before a person does. These systems cope best with simple files, so all three templates follow the same rules: one column, real selectable text, standard section headings (Work Experience, Education, Skills), and no photos, tables, text boxes, icons or rating bars. The accent colour only changes headings and one thin line. No template can promise that a particular system will read every file perfectly, so after downloading, open the PDF, select all the text and paste it into a plain note. If it reads in a sensible order there, software will read it too.
Resume advice for students and fresh graduates
- Keep it to one page. With little work history, one page is enough. The Compact template helps if you are a few lines over.
- Put your strongest section first. If you have no relevant jobs yet, choose “Education first” and follow it with projects.
- Count everything that shows effort. Internships, part-time work, tutoring, volunteering, society roles, competitions and final-year projects all belong on a first resume.
- Start bullets with a verb and say what changed. “Built a booking form that replaced a paper sign-up sheet” says more than “Responsible for forms”. Add a number only when you can back it up.
- Match the job advert honestly. If the advert asks for Excel and you have used it, use the word “Excel”. Do not list skills you cannot talk about in an interview.
- Use a plain email address based on your name, and include your city rather than a full home address.
- Leave out a photo, date of birth, marital status and ID numbers unless the employer or your country’s custom specifically asks for them.
- Proofread twice, then ask someone else to read it.
A worked example
Suppose you tutored classmates for a year. A weak bullet is “Helped students”. A stronger one names the action, the scale and the result: “Tutored first-year students in programming basics for 4 hours a week; wrote practice exercises that other tutors reused.”
Limits to know about
| Limit | What happens |
|---|---|
| Letters and symbols | The PDF uses the standard Helvetica fonts, which cover English and Western European letters. Urdu, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese and emoji cannot be drawn; they are replaced (usually with “?”) and the page tells you which characters were affected. |
| Layout | Single column only, by design. There is no photo or sidebar option. |
| Saving | Your data is saved in this browser only. Clearing site data or using another device loses it, so export a JSON copy. |

Frequently asked questions
Is this resume builder really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no paid download. The PDF is created in your browser.
Will my resume pass an ATS?
The templates avoid the things that commonly confuse applicant tracking systems: they use one column, real text, standard headings and no tables, photos or graphics. No tool can guarantee how a particular system reads a file, so paste the PDF text into a plain note to check the reading order.
Where is my information stored?
Only in your own browser, using local storage on this device. It is not uploaded. Press Clear all to delete it, and use Export data to keep your own backup.
Can I write my resume in Urdu, Arabic or Hindi?
Not with this tool. The PDF uses standard fonts that only cover English and Western European letters. Unsupported characters are replaced and the page shows a warning listing them.
How long should a fresh graduate’s resume be?
One page is the usual advice when you have little work experience. Use the Compact template or trim older, less relevant points if you run over.
Can I edit the resume later?
Yes. Your details are saved in this browser, so they are still here when you return. You can also export a JSON file and import it later or on another device.
