Terms and Conditions Generator
Tick the sections that fit your website or app and get a plain-English terms and conditions template. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs in your browser.
⚠️ This is a template, not legal advice. It gives you a sensible starting document, but nobody has checked it against your business. Have a lawyer review it if you take payments, handle health data, serve children, or have many users in the EU, the UK or California. Using it does not guarantee legal compliance or AdSense approval.

How to use the terms and conditions generator
- Enter your website or app name, its address, the owner’s name and a contact email.
- Tick the sections that fit your site. A simple blog needs fewer than a shop or a community.
- Set the details that appear under some boxes, such as the minimum age, the refund period and the governing law.
- Check the preview on the right, which updates as you type.
- Copy the text, HTML or Markdown, or download a file, and publish it on a page called “Terms and Conditions”.
Please read this. The result is a template, not legal advice. It does not guarantee that your terms are enforceable where you or your users live, or that an ad network will approve your site. If your business takes payments, handles health data, serves children, or has many users in the EU, the UK or California, ask a lawyer to review it.
What each section means
| Section | Plain meaning |
|---|---|
| User accounts | People must give true details and look after their password. |
| User-generated content | Users keep ownership of what they post but let you display it. You may remove posts that break the rules. |
| Purchases and refunds | How orders and payment work, and when money is returned. |
| Intellectual property | Your content belongs to you. Visitors may read it but not republish it. |
| Prohibited uses | No spam, hacking, scraping or unlawful content. |
| Disclaimers | The site is offered “as is”, with no promise that it is free of errors. |
| Limitation of liability | Limits what you can be asked to pay for, as far as the law allows. |
| Termination | You can block someone who breaks the terms. |
| Governing law | Which country’s law and courts apply. |
| Changes | You may update the terms and will change the date when you do. |
A worked example
Omar sells printable planners from a small site based in Canada. He ticks purchases and refunds and picks “Refunds within 14 days”. He leaves user accounts and user-generated content unticked because buyers check out as guests and cannot post anything. Intellectual property, prohibited uses, disclaimers, limitation of liability, termination, governing law and changes stay ticked. His terms come out with eleven numbered sections and name Canada as the governing law.
Things terms cannot do
Terms and conditions set expectations, but they do not override the law. In many countries, consumers have rights to refunds, cancellations and working products that no contract can take away, and a court can ignore a clause it finds unfair. That is why the generated wording says “to the fullest extent the law allows” and states that consumer rights are not affected. Be careful with the “No refunds” option in particular, because it may not be valid for consumers where you sell.
Tips and limits
- Text in square brackets, such as [Country], marks a field you left empty. Fill it in before publishing.
- If you write a region such as “England and Wales” or “the State of California” in the governing law box, it replaces the country.
- The template does not cover subscriptions that renew automatically, marketplaces, or regulated services such as finance and health. Those need wording written for them.
- “Copy HTML” gives the content only. “Download .html” gives a complete page.
- Link the terms from your footer, and from sign-up and checkout pages if you have them.
Pair your terms with a page from the privacy policy generator, which explains what data you collect. To turn the Markdown file into HTML later, use the Markdown to HTML converter, and count the length with the word counter.
Frequently asked questions
Is this terms and conditions generator free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit. The document is built in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
Are the generated terms legally binding?
That depends on the law where you and your users are, and on how users agree to the terms. This tool gives you a general template, not legal advice, and it cannot guarantee that every clause will be enforced.
Are terms and conditions the same as terms of service or terms of use?
Yes, the names are used for the same kind of document: the rules for using a website or app. You can rename the heading to whichever you prefer.
Do I need terms and conditions by law?
In most places a simple website is not required to have them, unlike a privacy policy. They are still useful because they set rules for visitors and limit your responsibility where the law allows. Shops usually must give buyers certain information, which terms can help with.
Can I say that I give no refunds?
You can choose that option, but consumer law in many countries gives buyers rights that terms cannot remove, such as refunds for faulty items. The generated text says those rights are not affected.
Which governing law should I choose?
Most owners choose the country or state where they live or where the business is registered. If you are unsure, or you sell to consumers in other countries, ask a lawyer.
