Discord Embed Builder

How to use the Discord embed builder

1. Type your message content, or leave it empty if you only want an embed.
2. Fill in the embed: a title, a description and, if you like, an author, fields, images and a footer. The preview on the right updates as you type.
3. Pick the colour of the bar on the left edge of the embed.
4. Press Add embed if you need more than one. A message can hold up to 10.
5. Copy or download the Webhook JSON, or switch to the discord.py tab for code you can paste into a bot.

What each part of an embed is

On top of these, the title, description, field names and values, footer and author name of all embeds in one message may not add up to more than 6,000 characters. The builder counts this for you and lists every problem under the preview, so you can fix it before Discord rejects the message.

Markdown you can use

The preview renders the common Discord formatting: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, `inline code` and links. Inside descriptions and field values you can also write a named link as [text](https://example.com). The preview is a close imitation, not the real Discord client, so spacing and fonts will differ slightly. Lists, headings, spoilers and custom emoji are sent to Discord correctly but are shown as plain text here.

A worked example

Say you run a study server and want to announce a quiz. Put @everyone Quiz night is back! in the content, set the title to Friday Quiz, write the rules in the description, and add two inline fields, Starts and Prize. Choose a green bar, add the footer See you there and press Copy. The JSON begins like this:

Notice that the colour is a plain number. Discord stores colours as a decimal integer, so #57F287 becomes 5763719. The builder converts it both ways.

Sending it

To create a webhook, open your channel’s settings in Discord, go to Integrations, create a webhook and copy its URL. You can then paste the URL into the Send box on this page, or send the downloaded file yourself from a terminal:

Treat the webhook URL like a password. Do not paste it into public code, screenshots or chats. If it leaks, delete the webhook in Discord and create a new one.

The name and avatar overrides only work for webhooks. A bot always posts under its own name, which is why the discord.py code leaves them out of channel.send.

Tips and limits

• Image URLs must be public links that start with https:// and point directly at an image file.
• Every field needs both a name and a value. An embed with nothing visible in it is rejected.
• Use Import JSON to load a payload you saved earlier and keep editing it.
• Buttons, select menus and polls are not covered by this tool.
