XML Sitemap Generator
Paste your page addresses, one per line, and get a clean, valid sitemap.xml to copy or download. The tool tidies and checks your list; it does not crawl your site.
This tool does not crawl your website. It cannot visit pages or discover links: it turns a list of addresses that you paste into a correctly formatted sitemap.xml.
Google says it ignores changefreq and priority. Leave them out unless another tool you use asks for them.
🔒 Everything you type stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to create a sitemap.xml
- Collect your page addresses. Copy them from your site’s menu, your content system’s page list or a spreadsheet. This tool cannot find them for you, because it never visits your site.
- Paste them in the box, one per line. Use full addresses such as
https://example.com/about. - Choose the options. Most sites can leave everything on “Leave out”.
- Check the messages under the output for skipped lines or mixed sites.
- Download sitemap.xml, upload it to the top folder of your site, then tell search engines about it: add a
Sitemap:line with the robots.txt generator, or submit the address in Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools.
What the tool does to your list
- Validates each line. Anything that is not an http or https address is skipped and listed with its line number.
- Normalises addresses. The domain is written in lower case,
https://is added if you left it off, anything after a#is removed (search engines ignore it), and spaces or non-English letters are percent-encoded the way browsers send them. - Removes exact duplicates after normalising.
- Escapes special characters. An
&in an address must be written as&inside XML, or the whole file is invalid. This is done for you. - Flags mixed sites. A sitemap should list one site only.
http://andhttps://, orwwwand non-www, count as different sites.
What each option means
| Tag | Meaning | Should you use it? |
|---|---|---|
lastmod | The date the page last changed in a meaningful way. | Only if it is true. This tool applies one date to every URL, so use it when you really did update everything, such as a new site. |
changefreq | A hint about how often the page changes. | Google ignores it. |
priority | How important a page is compared with your other pages, from 0.0 to 1.0. | Google ignores it. |
A worked example
Pasting example.com/café?a=1&b=2 produces this entry. The scheme was added, the accented letter was percent-encoded and the ampersand was escaped:
<url> <loc>https://example.com/caf%C3%A9?a=1&b=2</loc> </url>
Limits and tips
- One sitemap file can hold up to 50,000 URLs and be up to 50 MB uncompressed. The tool warns you when you pass either limit; bigger sites should split the list into several files and list them in a sitemap index.
- Only list pages you want in search results: the final address of each page, not redirects, error pages or pages marked
noindex. - A sitemap is a suggestion. It helps search engines discover pages, but it does not guarantee they will be crawled or shown.
- Small sites whose pages are all linked from the menu often do fine without one. It helps most on new sites, large sites and sites with pages that few other pages link to.
- The tool checks the shape of each address, not whether the page exists. Open a few of them yourself before you upload the file.
Next, set each page’s title and description with the meta tag generator.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool crawl my website to find pages?
No. It runs in your browser and never visits your site. You paste the list of page addresses and it formats them as a sitemap.
How many URLs can a sitemap have?
Up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites split their URLs across several sitemaps and list those files in a sitemap index.
Should I set priority and changefreq?
For Google there is no benefit, because Google has said it ignores both. They are optional in the sitemap format, so leaving them out is fine.
Should I add lastmod?
Only if the date is accurate. Search engines may use lastmod when it reliably matches real changes to the page, and tend to distrust it when every page always shows today’s date.
Where do I upload sitemap.xml?
Usually to the top folder of your site, so it opens at https://your-site.com/sitemap.xml. Then add a Sitemap line to robots.txt or submit it in Google Search Console.
Why was & changed to & in my URL?
XML uses & as a special character, so it has to be written as & inside the file. Search engines read it back as a normal &, and your address is unchanged.
