How to cut an MP3
- Choose your audio file. The waveform appears in a moment.
- Drag the two sliders, click on the waveform, or type exact times such as
0:45.5for the start and end. - Press Preview to listen to your selection.
- Choose a fade and a format, then press Cut audio and download the result.
Making a ringtone
- Android: cut 20–30 seconds, save as MP3, copy it to your phone, then choose it in Settings → Sound → Phone ringtone.
- iPhone: ringtones need to be under 40 seconds and in M4R format. Cut your clip here, then add it as a ringtone using GarageBand or your computer’s Music/Finder app.
- A short fade out stops the ringtone from ending abruptly.
MP3 or WAV?
MP3 is small and plays everywhere. 192 kbps sounds excellent for music, and 128 kbps is fine for speech and ringtones. WAV is uncompressed and keeps every detail, but it’s roughly ten times bigger. Choose WAV only if you’ll edit the audio further.
Supported files
The cutter reads any audio format your browser supports. MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC and OGG work in all modern browsers, and FLAC and Opus work in most. Very long recordings (over an hour) may be slow on phones.

Yes. Most common audio formats work. The result is saved as MP3 or WAV.
Why is my cut file a different size from the original?
It’s shorter, and it’s re-encoded at the bitrate you chose. A higher bitrate means better quality and a larger file.
