How to compress an image

Which format should I use?

Why compress images?
- Faster websites: images are often the heaviest part of a page. Smaller images load faster, which visitors and Google both like.
- Upload limits: many forms, job portals and exam sites only accept images under a certain size, such as 200 KB or 1 MB.
- Email and messaging: smaller attachments send faster and don’t fill up inboxes.
- Storage: save space on your phone or cloud drive.
Tips for the smallest file size
- Resize first. A 4000-pixel phone photo shown at 1200 pixels wastes most of its data. Resizing saves far more than lowering quality.
- Use WebP when the place you’re uploading to accepts it.
- Don’t compress the same JPG again and again. Each round loses a little quality. Always start from the original.

Yes. For the biggest savings, convert PNG photos to JPG or WebP. Keep PNG for logos and screenshots that need sharp edges or transparency.
