How the YouTube money calculator works
The calculator uses RPM (revenue per mille), which is what a creator actually earns for every 1,000 views after YouTube takes its share.
Estimated earnings = (views ÷ 1,000) × RPM
Example: 10,000 views a day at an RPM of $3 gives 10 × $3 = $30 a day, or about $900 a month.
RPM vs CPM
- CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube’s share.
- RPM is what the creator earns per 1,000 views, after YouTube’s share, counting all views, including ones that showed no ad.
RPM is always lower than CPM, and it’s the better number for estimating income. Creators can see their real RPM in YouTube Studio under Analytics → Revenue.
What changes a channel’s earnings?
- Topic: advertisers pay more to reach people interested in money, software, business and education.
- Audience country: viewers in the US, UK, Canada and Australia usually earn more than viewers elsewhere.
- Video length: videos over 8 minutes can show mid-roll ads.
- Time of year: ad prices tend to rise in the fourth quarter (October to December) and dip in January.
- Shorts vs long videos: Shorts are paid from a shared pool and usually earn far less per view.
- Other income: memberships, Super Thanks, sponsorships and affiliate links aren’t included here and are often worth more than ads.
How to start earning on YouTube
To earn from ads you need to join the YouTube Partner Program. At the time of writing, the ad-revenue tier requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million public Shorts views in the last 90 days. Rules change and vary by country, so check YouTube’s official Partner Program page before you plan around them.

Frequently asked questions

It varies widely. Many channels earn somewhere between about $1 and $10 per 1,000 views (RPM), but some finance and tech channels earn much more, and many entertainment channels earn less.

At an RPM of $1 to $5, about $1,000 to $5,000. The real number depends on the topic, the audience’s country and how many views were monetized.
Is this calculator accurate?
It gives an estimate, not a guarantee. For real numbers, creators should check the Revenue tab in YouTube Studio.
What is a good RPM on YouTube?
It depends on the niche. An RPM above $5 is strong for most channels, while $1–$3 is common for entertainment and gaming.
