How pace is calculated
Pace = time ÷ distance
Example: 5 km in 27:30 = 5:30 per km (about 8:51 per mile).
Race predictions
Predictions use Riegel’s formula, T₂ = T₁ × (D₂ ÷ D₁)1.06, which assumes you slow down slightly as distances get longer. They’re most accurate when you’ve trained for the longer distance.
| Race | Distance |
|---|---|
| 5K | 5 km (3.1 mi) |
| 10K | 10 km (6.2 mi) |
| Half marathon | 21.0975 km (13.1 mi) |
| Marathon | 42.195 km (26.2 mi) |
Frequently asked questions
What is a good running pace?
It depends on age and experience. Many recreational runners run 5K at 5:30–7:00 per km.
How do I convert pace per km to per mile?
