How to Make a Wi-Fi QR Code

Tired of spelling out your Wi-Fi password? A Wi-Fi QR code lets anyone join your network by pointing their phone camera at it. It works on iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android (10+) without any app.
Step 1: Find your network details
- Network name (SSID): the name you see in your phone’s Wi-Fi list. It’s case-sensitive.
- Password: often printed on a sticker under your router if you’ve never changed it.
- Security type: almost always WPA/WPA2/WPA3 on modern routers.
Step 2: Create the code
- Open the QR code generator and choose Wi-Fi network.
- Type the network name and password exactly, and pick the security type.
- Tick Hidden network only if your network doesn’t broadcast its name.
- Download the code as PNG (for screens) or SVG (for sharp printing).
Your password stays in your browser; it’s never sent to a server.
Step 3: Test and print it
- Scan it with two different phones before printing lots of copies.
- Print it at least 3 × 3 cm and add a line like “Scan to join our Wi-Fi”.
- Great spots: a frame by the front door, a café table card, an Airbnb welcome book or an office meeting room.
Keep your network safe
Anyone who scans the code gets your password, so only put it where you’d happily share the password. For shops, cafés and rentals, create a separate guest network in your router settings and make the QR code for that instead. If you change the password, make a new code.
