How the ranges are calculated
healthy weight (kg) = BMI × height (m)² (BMI from 18.5 to 24.9)
Example: at 1.70 m (5′7″), 18.5 × 1.70² = 53.5 kg and 24.9 × 1.70² = 72.0 kg. For your exact height and weight, use the BMI calculator.
Things a chart can’t tell you
- Muscle vs fat: muscular people can be above the range and still be healthy.
- Where fat sits: fat around the waist carries more health risk. A waist measurement less than half your height is a useful extra check.
- Ethnicity: people of Asian descent may face higher health risks at lower weights, so some guidelines use lower cut-offs.
- Age and pregnancy: this chart isn’t for children, teens or pregnant women.

Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy weight for my height?
For adults, a healthy weight is one that gives a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. Find your height in the chart to see that range in pounds and kilograms.
Is the healthy weight chart different for men and women?
No. The BMI-based range is the same for adult men and women, although body composition differs between people.
Does this chart work for children?
No. Children and teens need age- and sex-specific growth charts. This chart is for adults aged 20 and over.
Why might I be healthy outside this range?
BMI doesn’t separate muscle from fat, so athletes may weigh more and still be healthy. Waist size, fitness and blood tests also matter.
How was this chart calculated?
Each range uses the WHO adult healthy BMI range (18.5 to 24.9) applied to that height: weight = BMI × height in metres squared.
